Product Details

Original item: Only One Available. This is a great example of a British Artillery supply chest from around the end of the 19th century. Officially listed as the CHEST, SUPPLY (Pack Artillery) MISCELLANEOUS No.2, this chest measures 26" across X 10" deep X 17 1/2" wide, and is a very well constructed wood case complete with its green field finish. It is iron mounted with two closing hasps through which fixed leather straps pass to keep the lid closed. The iron mounts on the bottom incorporate some loops for specially fitting onto a gun carriage or pack animal. We believe this chest to date between 1880 and 1915. In all likely hood it was used with the "take down" Mountain Howitzers transported on the backs of Mules throughout the Empire.

On the interior of the lid there remains the original packing label, listing all necessary maintenance materials that should be contained in the chest. The chest still retains its original wood divider running from side to side.

In wonderful condition and ready to display.
